Kasganj Tragedy: 22 Killed, Including Minors, as Tractor Carrying Devotees Plunges into Pond

Kasganj: A tractor-trolley carrying pilgrims overturned into a pond in the Daryaganj area of Patiyali police station in Kasganj. At least 22 people, including 7 children, were killed in the accident that took place on Saturday.

More than three dozen pilgrims were riding in the tractor trolley. All these pilgrims were returning after taking a bath in the Ganges at Kaderganj Ghat. Suddenly, a major accident took place due to the overturning of the tractor-trolley. After the incident, the DM and SP along with senior police officials are present on the spot.

The police team and local people who reached the spot admitted the injured to the district community health centre. The bodies were recovered from the accident site. Relief and rescue work was carried out. Eyewitnesses of the accident say that there was a hue and cry as soon as the tractor-trolley overturned. There were a large number of women and children riding in the trolley.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He has also directed the district administration officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.

Compensation was announced for the families of the deceased and the injured, Vygr News learnt. 

Kasganj District Magistrate Sudha Verma said that 40 people were riding in the tractor trolley out of which 22 people have died. The injured are being treated. There is a possibility that some more people are trapped in the mud of the pond. Therefore, relief and rescue work is going on. She has also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

8 women and 7 children lost their lives in the tragic incident. The injured were first admitted to the district community health centre.

Some devotees were referred to another hospital in critical condition.
