On Wednesday, Reliance Jio, India's largest telecom operator, announced the expansion of its 5G services to 27 more cities in 13 states and union territories. This move extends its ultra-high-speed telephony network to 331 cities across the country. The company stated that Jio True 5G is now available in cities such as Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. Starting March 8, 2023, Jio users in these cities will be able to experience unlimited data at up to 1 Gbps speeds under the Jio Welcome Offer, without any extra cost. Jio's chairman, Mukesh Ambani, had previously revealed that Jio's 5G services would be available nationwide by the end of 2023.
The company's statement noted that Jio True 5G would offer lightning-fast speeds of up to 1 Gbps, which would enable seamless streaming of high-definition content, immersive and interactive viewing, and cloud gaming. The technology would also improve the capabilities of emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR), paving the way for innovative applications in nation-building areas such as healthcare, education, and agriculture. A Jio spokesperson stated that they aimed to provide Jio True 5G technology's transformational benefits to every Jio user in 2023. By December 2023, Jio True 5G will be accessible in every town and city in the country.
