Jharkhand Congress Lone MP, Ex CM's Wife Switches to BJP

Ranchi: Putting an end to all speculations, Congress Member of Parliament Geeta Koda, the wife of former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Madhu Koda, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. Geeta Koda, who represents the West Singhbhum district's Chaibasa constituency as the lone Congress MP in the state, made the significant move ahead of the general elections.

The BJP, considering Geeta Koda's entry as a masterstroke, witnessed her formal induction at the BJP office in front of prominent leader Babulal Marandi on Monday.

Speculation surrounding Geeta Koda's shift to the BJP has been circulating for a long time. Despite the persistent rumours, Geeta Koda refrained from openly disclosing her intentions regarding leaving Congress or joining the BJP. Although questioned multiple times about her potential affiliation with the BJP, she consistently denied such claims. However, her gradual withdrawal from party engagements and her absence from recent leadership meetings hinted at a shift in political allegiance.

The Congress party, evidently dissatisfied with the state-level alliances, faced another setback as Geeta Koda submitted her resignation to the party leadership before joining the BJP. Her decision to align with the BJP ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections is anticipated to impact Congress dynamics within the state significantly.

Geeta Koda, a two-term legislator from 2009 to 2019, marks her first stint as a Member of Parliament, representing the Singhbhum Lok Sabha constituency. Notably, her husband, Madhu Koda, served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand from September 2006 to August 2008.

Geeta Koda's act of switching to the BJP marks a significant moment in Jharkhand's politics, signalling potential shifts ahead of the elections.
