Due to extreme weather conditions, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to close the new track to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi cave temple, according to SSP Reasi Amit Gupta. Today's aerial service to the shrine has also been discontinued in the Reasi district.
As heavy downpours lashed wide regions of the Jammu region overnight, authorities ordered the cessation of traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the closure of schools in the Doda and Kishtwar districts, officials said on Wednesday. They mentioned that the decision was made for the students' safety because of the rising water levels in the Chenab River and its tributaries due to the ongoing rainfall.
They added that the bad weather also forced the suspension of the chopper facility and battery-powered car services at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine atop Trikuta hills in the Reasi district.
In Ramban district, mudslides and landslides occurred at multiple locations along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway as a result of heavy rains that hit large portions of the Jammu division overnight.
