The United States has placed sanctions on 275 individuals and entities. Among these, 15 are India-based companies allegedly supplying essential technology and equipment to Russia’s defense industry. The US State Department has also extended sanctions to Russian defense officials, companies, and individuals contributing to future energy production and exports, as well as entities supporting the Lukashenka regime in Belarus. Chinese companies exporting dual-use goods essential for Russia’s defense sector are also included in the sanctions.
Indian Companies Among Sanctioned Entities
The sanctioned Indian firms, including Abhar Technologies and Services, Denvas Services Private Limited, Emsystech, Galaxy Bearings Ltd, and others, are accused of supporting Russia’s military-industrial base. These companies, along with several other foreign entities from China, Switzerland, Thailand, and Turkiye, allegedly supplied advanced technology and logistical support that Russia requires to sustain its war efforts. By targeting these entities the US aims to disrupt the global networks aiding Russia's conflict in Ukraine.
India Engages with US Over Sanctions on Indian Companies
In response to recent US sanctions on 19 Indian companies and two individuals, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday that it is working closely with American authorities to address these concerns. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted India’s strict controls on trade involving sensitive goods, stating, “India has strong legal guidelines to prevent the spread of weapons and follows key international rules on export controls.” Jaiswal noted that India actively enforces UN sanctions and Resolution 1540, focused on non-proliferation. He emphasized that these transactions do not appear to break any Indian laws and reassured that India regularly updates its export rules. “We believe the sanctioned transactions do not violate Indian laws. We are in discussions with US officials to clarify these matters,” Jaiswal added.
Expanding Sanctions to cut down Russian Networks
According to Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, the sanctions serve as a clear message that the United States and its allies remain committed to diminishing Russia’s access to critical resources. The sanctions are focused on stopping the flow of essential equipment to Russia and cracking down on its networks.
