IMD forecasts heavy rainfall, severe cold wave in northern India

The IMD forecast indicates that Western Uttar Pradesh may experience a cold to severe cold day on January 29, 2024, and isolated areas on January 30, 2024. The weather agency warns that dense fog and severe cold conditions will persist over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over the next two days, gradually improving.

Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for several states in northern India, predicting rain in the coming days amidst the current cold wave conditions.

As per the IMD's latest update, Delhi is expected to experience light rainfall on January 31 and February 1 due to a second western disturbance moving across the plains. The weather department has also forecast a wet spell over the Western Himalayan Region between January 29 and February 3, leading to rain in northern regions on January 30 and 31. The forecast further predicts very dense foggy conditions in several regions including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on various dates in January.

IMD forecasts for rainfall predictions across North India

There is a chance of moderate rain or snow in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh until February 3rd. Heavy rain or snow is expected in Kashmir on January 30-31, and in Himachal Pradesh on January 31. Uttarakhand may experience moderate rainfall or snow, while Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh may see light rainfall from January 31 to February 2.


Minimum temperature forecasts and dense fog predictions

Minimum temperatures in many parts of Northwest India are expected to rise by 2-4°C over the next 4-5 days. Minimum temperatures in East India are expected to rise by 3-5°C over the next three days, while West India will see a 2-4°C increase.

Expect dense fog conditions in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan from January 29-30. Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh can expect heavy fog on January 29. Bihar is expected to experience dense fog from January 29 to 31. On January 29, dense fog is predicted in Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

 

Train and Flight Delays


Bad weather has impacted train services at the New Delhi Railway Station. The 20808 Hirakund Express was cancelled, while the 04449 New Delhi-Kurukshetra Junction and 12011 Kalka Shatabdi Express trains were delayed.
