Two kilograms of gold were confiscated from a smuggler on Tuesday at RGI Airport by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) agents. The gold had a purity of 99.5% and was worth Rs. 1.3 crore.
In response to specific information, a DRI squad detained a traveler on Tuesday at RGI Airport who was about to fly from Hyderabad to Chennai and who was carrying six capsules containing two kilograms of gold paste.
The DRI team discovered during the investigation that a foreign transit passenger had given the accused the gold capsules at the airport through a small opening between the glass panel dividing the international departure area from the domestic departure area.
“We seized the gold and the passenger involved in smuggling activity has been arrested under the Customs Act. He was produced before the court and sent in judicial remand,” said a DRI official.
