The EPFO, a retirement fund organization, has announced an extension of the deadline to apply for a higher pension until June 26. This decision was made due to the Ministry of Labour & Employment receiving several requests for an extension from various sources, as stated in a notification.
EPFO has organized a system for receiving applications from pensioners/members to verify their option/joint option, following the Hon’ble Supreme Court order dated November 4, 2022. An online facility has been established to assist in this process, which has received over 1.2 million applications so far. However, the online facility was initially only available until May 3, 2023. The Supreme Court had previously directed the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to allow all qualified members a four-month period to choose a higher pension, according to an order on November 4, 2022.
