BJP sweeps state elections with 48/90 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the clear winner in the recent state assembly elections, clinching 48 out of 90 seats. This commanding performance puts the BJP in a strong position to form the government. The Indian National Congress (INC) secured the second position with 37 seats, including one seat where they were leading at the time of the final count.
In a distant third and fourth place, independent candidates managed to win 3 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) secured 2 seats.
►Congress Alleges Manipulation in Haryana
Congress, alongside its National Conference allies, claimed a clear victory in Jammu & Kashmir, vowing to restore statehood and ensure a transparent government. They emphasised that the people of J&K rejected the BJP's attempts at a majority.
In Haryana, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera called the results “unexpected” and raised concerns over EVM tampering, particularly in Hisar, Mahendragarh, and Panipat districts.
"This is a victory of manipulation, a defeat for democracy," Khera stated.
Congress plans to submit complaints to the Election Commission, insisting that the Haryana results don’t reflect the will of the people.

►ECI Response to Congress Allegations of Slowdown in Haryana Results
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has responded to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, stating that there is no evidence to support his allegations of a slowdown in the updating of Haryana election results. In a letter dated October 8, 2024, the ECI addressed Ramesh's memorandum regarding unexplained delays in results on the ECI website.
The ECI highlighted that similar concerns were raised previously by the Indian National Congress (INC) during the General Elections 2024, which were dismissed as unfounded. The commission confirmed that the counting of votes is conducted as per Rule 60 of the Conduct of Election Rules at designated counting centres, under the supervision of authorised personnel.
The ECI stated, "There is nothing on record to substantiate your ill-founded allegation of slowdown in updating results." They reiterated that the counting process in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir is transparent, occurring in the presence of candidates and observers. The commission provided data indicating that approximately 25 rounds across all constituencies are updated every five minutes, showcasing a swift counting process.
The letter concluded by rejecting Ramesh's claims, describing them as irresponsible and unsubstantiated.
