Gujarat bears heavy brunt of floods, 12 highways shut

Heavy rains in various regions of Gujarat have led to a flood-like situation on Saturday, 22 July. IMD has issued an orange and red alert for Gujarat till 24 July. Navsari and Junagadh are the most affected districts due to flooding. 

Many vehicles and cattles have been washed away in flood water. State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for the rescue operation. Around 740 people have transferred to a safer place and 358 have been rescued successfully. 

The situation is really worse, two national highways near Kutch and Porbandar are closed and, with that, 10 other state highways have been shut down by the state government. Other 302 roads were closed yesterday. 

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad was flooded by water. The terminal was submerged under water. Passengers faced difficulties reaching there to catch a flight. 

Today, 23 July, some regions, including Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Valsad, Navsari, Porbandar will face very heavy rainfall and the flood situation may remain as it is today. The IMD said that the North Gujarat coast will be having stormy weather till 26 July and warned fishermen to stop any activity there.
