Gujarat: Homoeopath Pays 16.32 Lakh for Fake Degree

A homeopath in Gujarat's Mehsana was allegedly scammed out of Rs 16.32 lakh by four people who promised him admission to an MBBS course but delivered a fake degree instead. On June 14, Suresh Patel (41), a BHMS graduate, filed a complaint, which resulted in a case being registered by Nandasan police under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating). The accused, named in the FIR, are Dr. Premkumar Rajput of Nainital, Dr. Shaukat Khan of Moradabad, and Arun and Anand Kumar of South Delhi.

MBBS Degree

In 2018, Patel discovered a website that advertised MBBS admissions at Bundelkhand University in Uttar Pradesh. After several phone conversations with Dr. Rajput, he deposited Rs 16.32 lakh into various bank accounts between July 2018 and March 2019.

Medical Council of India

The accused assured him that the course would begin soon, but then went silent.

Scam

Patel received a courier in March 2019 with fake mark sheets and a degree certificate, which were confirmed as fraudulent by the Medical Council of India and the university. Despite a police effort in Delhi, the accused are still at large.
