Yesteryear's actor Govind Arun Ahuja aka Govinda, unexpectedly became a walking example of the importance of gun safety and how guns are dangerous to be kept around, when his foot got shot off with his own handgun, in his own home.
He was rushed to emergency, and was hospitalized this morning after sustaining a bullet injury to his leg in an accidental misfire. The incident, which occurred around 4:45 am, involved his licensed revolver, which reportedly fell from a cupboard and discharged. Fortunately, the 60-year-old actor is out of danger, and after receiving treatment at Criticare Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, he has returned home.
At the time of the accident, Govinda was alone at his residence, as his wife, Sunita Ahuja, was in Kolkata. Govinda had been preparing to leave for the airport to catch a 6 am flight for a show in Kolkata when the accident occurred. His manager, who was already at the airport, confirmed that the actor is doing fine and that it was due to "God's grace" that the injury was not severe. Although police have noted the incident, Govinda has not filed any formal complaint regarding the misfire.
