G20 Summit: 25+ international leaders to attend the Delhi high table, including Biden, Xi, and Erdogan

The G20 Summit is set to take place in New Delhi, India, on September 9–10, with more than 25 world leaders in attendance. This will be India's first time hosting the summit since its inception in response to the 2008 financial crisis. The leaders in attendance include US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, among others.

The summit will see representation from 18 member countries at the leader's level. Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be absent and will be represented by his foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov. Mexico's delegation will also be led by its Minister of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro Sanchez, as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has traditionally opted for ministerial-level representation.

Chinese President Xi's attendance at the summit follows an informal conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst tensions at the Line of Actual Control. President Biden's visit to India, from September 7 to 10, includes participation in the G20 Summit, with the White House praising PM Modi's leadership and reaffirming the US commitment to the economic cooperation forum.

Other leaders attending the summit include Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Additionally, India has extended invitations to leaders from nine nations, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Singapore, Spain, the UAE, and Oman.

In total, the summit will witness the presence of 27 heads of state and government, along with representatives from multilateral organisations such as the WTO, World Bank, WHO, UN, OECD, IMF, ILO, ISA, CDRI, ADB, and the Financial Stability Board.

The G20 Summit in New Delhi will be a platform for leaders to discuss and address global economic challenges, including recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and sustainable development. It will also provide an opportunity for bilateral meetings and diplomatic engagements among the attending leaders.

Under the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who serves as the G20 chair, the summit aims to foster international cooperation and collaboration to tackle pressing global issues. India's advocacy for the African Union's integration into the G20 consortium will also be highlighted, with the participation of Azali Assoumani, Chairperson of the African Union and President of Comoros.

Overall, the G20 Summit in New Delhi is expected to be a significant gathering of world leaders and top-tier institutions, providing a platform for dialogue and cooperation on key global challenges.
