After victory in the Karnataka polls and holding the office of Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah announced the very first implementation of poll guarantees. On 11th June, after 1 pm, he launched the Shakti scheme for women in Karnataka. Through this scheme, women in Karnataka can travel free on the buses across the state. He provided smart cards to the first 5 beneficiaries to inaugurate the scheme.
To travel free, women will need a smart card. The Karnataka government will start issuing smart cards, but till then they can show any government IDs while traveling. This scheme is to empower women so that they can contribute to the workforce in larger quantities. This scheme will be applied to all the buses of Road Transport Corporations (KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC). But the government has promised that this scheme won’t cause any loss to RTC and promised to provide financial backing to RTC.
The scheme won’t be applied to buses which go outside the state and there will be 50% reservation of seats for men in all four Road Transport Corporations.
