Mala Ashok Ankola, 77, mother of former cricketer-turned actor Salil Ankola, was found dead today with her throat slit in the flat she was staying in, on Prabhat Road, Pune, on Friday. The police said it looks like injuries could have been self-inflicted.
The case went unnoticed when her maid came home and receiving no response at the door, raised an alarm in the house. She found Mala Ankola's lifeless body hanging from the door after it had been unlocked.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Sandip Singh Gill said, the injuries seem self-inflicted. However, the investigation is on, and we are examining all possibilities. Mala Ankola had been suffering from mental health issue, police also confirmed. An inquiry into the tragic incident continues.
