How did the authorities manage to control the fire so quickly?

While the search results do not specify how authorities controlled the February 7, 2025 fire at the Maha Kumbh Mela, they do provide general information on fire control and prevention. Fire control involves reducing the heat output, reducing the area affected, or extinguishing the fire. A key strategy to prevent fires is to remove heat, oxygen, or fuel. Some common practices in fire management include:

  • Early detection Monitoring forest lands from fire lookout towers is an effective way to detect fires early, especially in fire-sensitive forests.
  • Fuel removal Leaf blowers can clear strips of land of leaves, twigs, and other fuel material, so that advancing fires die off when they reach these cleared areas. Controlled burns, or prescribed burns, are also used to intentionally set fires to change the vegetation and decaying material in an area.
  • Communication Wireless systems are used to communicate fire incidents to fire control rooms, who then inform the concerned officers.
  • National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) Development of NFDRS and fire forecasting systems are important for successful fire management and administration.
