Fasttag can now be a used to pay for fuel

The digital payments landscape is constantly evolving, and the latest innovation is a feature called 'pay by car'. Developed by Amazon and Master Card-backed ToneTag, this service integrates the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system into a car's infotainment system, allowing users to make smartphone-free digital payments.

The 'pay by car' feature was recently showcased on the MG Hector in partnership with Bharat Petroleum. When a car owner drives up to a fuel station, the car's infotainment system displays the fuel dispenser number, and a soundbox inside the car announces the arrival, alerting the staff at the fuel station. Users can then enter the desired amount for their fuel purchase, which is announced through the soundbox, resulting in a secure and contactless transaction.

This new payment system is not limited to fuel purchases. It can also be used to recharge the car's battery and offers a comprehensive solution for vehicle-related payments. ToneTag has also developed other payment-related innovations, such as an offline voice-based payment system designed for individuals who struggle with app-based payments or digital literacy. They have also unveiled a conversational payments option on UPI, allowing users to pay bills through normal phone conversations.

ToneTag, established in 2013 by Kumar Abhishek, was the first company to enable contactless payment acceptance on point-of-sale machines using sound. Their innovations aim to empower individuals and make digital transactions more accessible and effortless.

The 'pay by car' feature is another step towards a more convenient and seamless digital payments experience. By integrating UPI into a car's infotainment system, users can make payments without the need for a smartphone or other mobile devices. This technology has the potential to revolutionise the way we make payments, offering a new level of convenience and safety.
