The Enforcement directorate (ED) ran an operation on the basis of a complaint by the CBI. On 2 May, the ED was on investigation in 21 places in Delhi and Gurgaon. This investigation was related to Karan Chanana, Amira Pure Foods Private Limited and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, of 2002.
The investigation went under various sections of the IPC, like committing fraud, breach of trust, wrongful loss, cheating etc. it caused nearly Rs. 1201.85 Crore to the group of banks with the Canara bank as a head.
The ED stated that Karan Chanana with other related firms diverted the amount of loan into other shell accounts illegally and misled the banks. Karan Chanana used to transfer money to a political party in the UK. He has transferred up to 250,000 GBP to date. The entity failed to repay the amount of the loan and therefore was declared as a Non-Performing Asset (NPA) in 2016-17 by banks.
During the investigation under PMLA, various other evidence was collected and a total of 1.01 Crore cash has been confiscated by the ED. The investigation is still not completed.
