Unfortunately, a tragic event occurred during the Maha Navami celebration in Bihar's Gopalganj district, leading to the loss of three lives, including a five-year-old child. This unfortunate incident took place on the night of October 23, when a large number of people had gathered at the Raja Dal Durga Puja Pandal to participate in the festivities. In the midst of the chaos, a devastating stampede occurred, resulting in injuries to 17 individuals who are currently receiving treatment at the government hospital.
The departed individuals include Aash Kumar, who was just 5 years old, Urmila Devi, aged 55, and Shanti Devi. Additionally, a young child named Shubham Kumar, also 5 years old, is currently in critical condition and has been recommended for specialized care in Gorakhpur.
According to Swarn Prabhat, Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopalganj, it has been reported that unfortunately, a child fell in the crowd and was accidentally trampled upon. People, in their haste to rush the child to the hospital, unintentionally collided, resulting in a situation similar to a stampede. Regrettably, two elderly women also lost their lives due to the force of the crowd. Several others have been injured and are currently receiving medical treatment. The diligent police force promptly restored calm and stability to the situation.
The Pandal, inspired by the Smruti Mandir of Gujarat and situated on Sugar Mill Road, drew a large number of devotees, leading to overcrowding and a subsequent stampede. District magistrate Nawal Kishor Choudhary of Gopalganj acknowledged the considerable gathering on Navami. He reassured that the district administration is effectively managing the situation and is diligently offering medical assistance to those who require it.
To summarize, the community is currently experiencing a solemn moment as they process this regrettable incident. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families who have been affected. We hope that they find strength and comfort during this challenging period.
