From September 8 through 10, all public and private offices in Delhi will be closed, along with the banks and businesses in the New Delhi neighbourhood. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, made this choice in light of the approaching G20 Summit in the capital. A public announcement would be made by the Delhi government following Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena's approval of the proposal.
Schools and universities will also be closed for these three days, in addition to companies and other businesses. A closure of some metro stations, including the Central Secretariat and the Supreme Court, is being contemplated for security reasons. Between September 8 and September 10, heavy vehicles may not be permitted to enter the city, with the exception of those participating in critical services.
The G20 Summit will be held in India, with the main meeting taking place in New Delhi on September 9–10. 29 heads of state, as well as senior representatives from the European Union, specially invited nations, and 14 leaders of international organisations, are anticipated to attend the summit. Foreign dignitaries will visit a number of locations in Delhi, including NGMA, IARI Pusa, Pragati Maidan, and Rajghat.
The goal of closing businesses and announcing public holidays is to lessen potential traffic congestion and discomfort for Delhi residents during the summit. To protect the participants' safety while travelling and to assist the summit's efficient operation, Special Commissioner of Police Madhup Tiwari has proposed the following measures.
The Delhi Police will issue traffic advisories for the summit, and the transport department and Delhi Metro are working with the Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to identify which metro stations may be blocked and which routes on which buses would not be permitted to operate.
In Delhi, preparations for the G20 Summit have already begun, and key highways and lodging facilities connected to the event are being monitored. To find any preparation shortcomings, civil servants have been assigned 24-hour patrols.
Overall, the closure of businesses and the introduction of traffic restrictions are geared towards ensuring the success of the G20 Summit and causing the least amount of disturbance to Delhi residents.
