Due to continuous rain in Delhi for the last 3-4 days, it has led the Yamuna river to cross its danger level. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi. As Yamuna crosses its danger level, there has been a flood alert for the city. The Central Water Commission said that Yamuna water crossed 205.33 meters and touched 206.24 meters, which is a danger mark.
This is not just because of rainfall, but 2,15,677 cusecs water from Hathnikund barrage, Haryana was released into Yamuna as a result, water level in Yamuna is rising. This morning, 11 July, rail and road transportation on Yamuna Bridge was temporarily closed.
In 1978, Yamuna reached 207.49 meters, which is the highest recorded flood level. Looking at the current situation, there are chances that the Yamuna river might cross this highest level. But the Delhi government is preparing hard to prevent flood situations. The government ordered all schools in Delhi to be shut on 11th July. The government will start the evacuation of people living in low lying areas. They will be shifted to a safe place where the government will provide them with food and water at relief camps.
The IMD predicted 6 more days of rainfall in Delhi. But as the government is ready with all the necessary plans, there won't be much damage to the lives of people.
