By May 2024, full body scanners should be implemented at the Delhi airport, a senior official announced on Friday. Computed Tomography X-ray (CTX) devices are also expected to be installed by May of next year, allowing travelers to bypass the need to remove electronic goods from their handbags during the security check.
On Friday, Director General Zulfiquar Hasan of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) announced an extension of the deadline for installing CTX machines and full body scanners at select airports.December 31 is the cutoff date for implementing full body scanners at airports handling more than 10 million passengers annually. Hasan stated during a press conference in the nation's capital that there have been some provisioning concerns and that BCAS is in communication with airport operators over the scanner installation.He stated, "We expect the X-ray machines and full body scanners to come in May...," and that both should be implemented at the Delhi airport by May of the following year.The main airport in the nation, Delhi Airport, is predicted to handle over 70 million passengers by the end of the current fiscal year in March 2024.
When CTX (Computer Tomography X-ray) scanners are installed, travelers won't need to take their electronics out of their luggage to go through security at airports.
