In the early hours of Thursday, an allegedly speeding truck jumped a divider at Siraspur on GT Karnal Road and collided with another truck, killing at least four people and injuring fifteen others as they travelled to Haridwar for the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage to collect Ganga waters.The truck's driver fled the scene, leaving his car behind. According to the police, he was arrested for reckless and irresponsible driving that resulted in his death.
According to Deputy Police Commissioner Ravi Kumar Singh, the accident was reported to their control room around 12.44 a.m. He continued by saying that numerous people passed away immediately. He stated that one of the trucks was transporting pilgrims on the Kanwar Yatra from Nangloi to Haridwar.
Based on the investigation conducted on the scene, the other vehicle, which was travelling in the direction of Delhi, jumped the highway's central median and collided with the truck carrying kanwariyas (pilgrims) on the opposite road. At least 19 of the 20–23 Kanwariyas were hurt as a result of the incident. Four of the 14 injured people who were carried to Satyawadi Raha Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela were later pronounced dead.
He said that Paschim Vihar and Jahangirpuri hospitals were suggested for other injured patients. Singh reported that the collision caused a traffic jam before the damaged vehicles were evacuated.
