35 projects totaling ₹670 crore that were built by the Border Highways Organisation (BRO) throughout seven states and union territories were recently inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. These projects included six highways and 29 bridges. These construction operations were carried out in harsh weather and on unfriendly ground. A modern bridge across Dhak Nallah, the Dhak Bridge, was the venue for the event. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Ragini-Ustad-Pharkian Gali Road is one of the remaining projects that Singh virtually inaugurated. It would improve military operational preparedness by offering all-weather communication between the Tangdhar and Keren sectors.
Development of border infrastructure
The development of border infrastructure has changed in perspective, as Singh pointed out, with people no longer placing as much emphasis on it because they are worried about the other side using it. However, the government is dedicated to the development of border areas under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, viewing them as an integral part of the nation.
Noting the rise in natural disasters in border states and union territories, Singh also addressed the topic of climate change. He stressed that there is a real national security concern associated with climate change, not only a weather-related occurrence. Regarding this matter, the Ministry of Defence is planning to approach friendly nations about cooperation.
Singh stated that in terms of employee welfare, the government has guaranteed risk and hardship allowances for BRO permanent civilian employees on par with those provided to members of the military service. An additional ₹10 lakh in insurance coverage has been made available for paid casual labourers, in addition to an increase in ex-gratia payments.
The launch of these projects by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh demonstrates the government's dedication to the advancement of border regions and the well-being of those working on border infrastructure projects. A second indication of the government's proactive approach to resolving issues in border regions is the focus on climate change as a national security concern.
