Controversial Coke ad leads to police complaint against Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Coca-Cola India CEO

Dibyayan Banerji, a lawyer from the Calcutta High Court, has filed a complaint against the CEO of Coca-Cola's India division and actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui for allegedly offending the Bengali community in one of the company's recent Sprite advertisements. The complaint alleges that the Bengali version of the advertisement, in which Siddiqui is shown laughing at a joke that implies Bengalis sleep hungry if they don't get anything easily, is hurtful to the community's sentiments.

Banerji also claims that the Hindi version of the advertisement is offensive and may violate provisions of the IT Act and the Indian Penal Code. Following the complaint, Sprite India removed the ad and issued an apology, expressing its respect for the Bengali language and commitment to preserving the heritage of the state through its services, investments, CSR, and social consciousness.
