Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav posted a charming video of Cheetah Gamini and her five cubs playing in the rain at Kuno National Park. The cubs, born in March, jump and play joyfully while their mother watches them closely. Yadav called the scene a "timeless tale of biological harmony amidst nature's seasonal embrace."
Gamini's cubs were born in March 2024, increasing the park's cheetah population to 26. The reintroduction project, which began in September 2022, involved the release of eight Namibian cheetahs into Kuno National Park—five females and three males. In February 2023, an additional 12 cheetahs arrived from South Africa, including Gamini.
Growing Family:
Since the park's inception, it has faced both successes and challenges. As of March 2024, the cheetah population consists of seven females, six males, and thirteen cubs. Sadly, 10 cheetahs, including three cubs born to another cheetah named Jwala, have died in the last year.
A viral sensation:
The video, which captures Gamini's cubs' playful spirit in the rain, has gone viral, spreading joy and highlighting the successful completion of the ambitious reintroduction project. As the cheetah family thrives, Kuno National Park remains a beacon of wildlife conservation and a source of hope for the species' future in India.
