BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte was attacked by a mob in Manipur

BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte was attacked by an infuriated mob in Manipur on Thursday. He was returning from a conference called by CM N Biren Singh. While he was returning to his official residence in Imphal, he was surrounded by a large mob which then attacked him and beat him up. His vehicle was wrecked by people. His driver and he could not find a way out, while his Protective Service Officer made his way and ran. BJP leader Valte is in critical condition at the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Imphal. Sources said that soon he will be transferred to Delhi for further treatment by air means.

Vungzagin Valte belongs to the Kuki community and he has been MLA of Thanlon, Pherzawal district for the last three terms.  He had been in the post of Tribal Affairs and Hill minister in the last government.

Currently, Manipur is going through a lot of movements and changes. People are protesting against the inclusion of the Meitei community in the ST community. All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) organized a Tribal March to resist the government. The mob attacked people from the Meitei community and burnt out shops. People’s anger has led the government to take certain actions against crowds. As we all know, the network connection was shut down in Manipur. The government did send an order of ‘shoot at sight’ in extreme situations. All these restrictions and government decisions made people burst out into their anger and they attacked the MLA.
