Bhubaneswar.: Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday in Bhubaneswar. He arrived in Odisha late on Tuesday night.
Gates paid a visit to the Biju Adarsh Colony in Maa Mangla Basti to check on the resident's well-being. He asked them questions about their living arrangements and general well-being throughout his visit. He also spoke with the employees of the women's self-help groups (SHGs). The philanthropist also inquired about how the charity programs have affected the M6 slum dwellers' way of life. "He inquired about our previous living situation and current situation," a resident of the slum stated.

Anu Garg, the State Development Commissioner, emphasized the utilities offered to the slum inhabitants, including electricity, tap water access, sanitary facilities, and land rights. We have demonstrated to him that slum residents are entitled to land, tap water connections, electrical supplies, and toilets.
Gates is planning to attend several events during his tour, including the 'Mukta' project (localized employment prospects for the urban poor) and 'Mission Shakti. Gates conversed with women in self-help groups, paying close attention to their stories.
Bill Gates’s India Visit
Praising the 'Aadhaar' initiative, Gates said that it has become possible for the Odisha government to keep records of about 75 lakh farmers, even the data of those farmers who do not have land or farming is also being maintained by the government. Since 2017, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment and the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources of the Government of Odisha have collaborated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for innovation in data-driven decision-making, he said.

Gates also spoke to some of the most talented engineers in India at the tech giant's India Development Centre (IDC) in Hyderabad. Sharing Gates' "optimism over the opportunity for an AI-powered India" was Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director, Microsoft IDC, and CVP, Experiences Devices India. On Thursday, the billionaire also had a meeting with Union Minister Smriti Irani and launched the website and logo of the 'Alliance for Global Good - Gender Equity and Equality' in New Delhi.
