Bhutan releasing dam water: Assam on high alert after floods

The flood situation in Assam is likely to get worse due to the excess water released from the Kurichhu River in Bhutan, which is a Hydropower Plant reservoir. The reports from Sunday, which is 18th of June, says that the Pahumara and Kaladiya  River in Assam, has risen to a dangerous level due to the water release, as a result of which thousands of locals have been displaced to a safer location.

The district and state governments have been working on war footing, to get things safe before the situation gets any worse. The administration and emergency deployments have been started in place. 

 Despite this preparedness, around 25,000 individuals in the Lakhimpur district, 3800 individuals in Dibrugarh and 3600 people from the Biswanath district have been affected severely.
