Beautifying Delhi ahead of G20

A section of the Bhairon Marg drains in the capital has received renovations in preparation for the G20 Summit, including clearing overgrowth, placing beautiful rocks, and creating a selfie spot.

According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, work on the expansive project included sprucing up a 240-meter part of the drain to give it a "canal-like" appearance after it overflowed during the rains last month.

“Desilting work has been underway for the past four days. Vegetation around the drain has also been removed. As part of the facelift, the drain was shaped into a trapeze and the sides have been adorned with decorative rocks. A selfie point is being created in front of the ‘canal’,” said employees of the civic body on the ground.

The Indian Express also went to nearby areas to see the massive improvements, particularly the roadways close to the Pragati Maidan complex.

The Bharat Mandapam Integrated Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre's neighboring road is dotted with beautiful plants and fountains, while the highways have been cleaned and the kerb stones have been restored and decorated, laying out the red carpet for dignitaries on September 9 and 10.

There is distinctive "G20 lighting" throughout the Pragati Maidan stretch that leads to the Convention Center. The lights display the word "G" and the number "2" in orange and green, while the number "0" is represented by a globe in blue-and-white shade lights. The globe is set above a lotus that is illuminated in both orange and green.

The convention center's access roads have also been adorned with a variety of illumination. Previously known as a dark area, Bhairon Marg in front of the Zoo and National Craft Museum has been illuminated. Workers on the ground report that over 500 streetlights, including Tiranga strip lights, over 100 decorative column lights, and six high-mast lights for a more lively appearance, have been placed on the length thus far.

In the meantime, street art including drawings of the India Gate, lotuses, and horses is emerging at the Supreme Court Metro station. Along the route, there are also enormous "welcome" symbols bearing the G20 logo.

On Bhairon Marg, several fountains have also been built using black tiles, and the borewell construction is currently being finished. German hangar tents have been erected to provide shade for the troops, and security personnel have been posted nearby.

The MCD has also sent ambulances to ensure assistance in dire circumstances, and extra pumps have been installed to clear the water if it rains, according to officials.
