During his four-day visit to India, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was accorded a guard of honour by the Indian Navy on board the indigenous INS Vikrant in Mumbai. He also joined Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to watch Day 1 of the 4th test match between India and Australia at Narendra Modi stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Both leaders are scheduled to hold significant bilateral meetings to strengthen the relationship between India and Australia. On his first day in India, Albanese visited Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
He is expected to continue with important bilateral meetings during his visit to further enhance the relationship between the two countries. Albanese arrived in India on Wednesday and celebrated Holi with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat at Raj Bhawan in the state capital Gandhinagar. On his arrival, he tweeted, "An incredible welcome to Ahmedabad, India. The beginning of an important trip for Australia-India relations."
