On Monday at about 8:03 am, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck areas of Assam. For a brief period of time, Guwahati and the surrounding areas suffered intense vibrations. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) claims that Sonitpur was the earthquake's epicentre. National Centre for Seismology (NCS) tweeted, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 29-05-2023, 08:03:35 IST, Lat: 26.68 & Long: 92.35, Depth: 15 Km, Region: Sonitpur, Assam." Tremors were also reported in the bordering states of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, according to a Guwahati Times article.
No injuries or damage have been reported. More information is awaited. Mild earthquake vibrations were detected on Sunday in Delhi and the surrounding regions, which included various locations in Punjab and Haryana. A 6.6-magnitude earthquake that rocked the Hindu Kush area of Afghanistan in March this year caused severe tremors to shake various portions of north India, including Delhi-NCR, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan. There were no reports of any casualties or property damage.
