Army Rescues Over 1200 Tourists Stranded in Sikkim Amid Snowfall and Inclement Weather

On Thursday. 1,217 tourists stranded in high-altitude areas in eastern Sikkim due to snowfall and inclement weather have been rescued by the Indian Army, officials reported.

The Trishakti Corps of the army executed the rescue mission relocating the tourists to safer areas. They were then offered shelter, warm clothing, medical aid, and hot meals, according to officials.

The army's rescue and relief operation, initiated on December 13, extended into the early hours of December 14. A sum of 1,217 tourists was successfully evacuated from the advanced regions of East Sikkim to an army transit facility, as stated by an official.

Despite challenging conditions with sleet-covered roads, the army, in collaboration with civil administration, ensured the safe evacuation of all tourists back to Gangtok, the official added.

Soldiers even vacated their barracks to facilitate the accommodation of stranded tourists.
