Andhra Pradesh police warns smartphone users to be aware of bluebugging

In Andhrapradesh, Prakasam district's Superintendent of Police, Malika Garg told people to be aware of bluebugging. She told smartphone users to take the utmost care. The increasing rate of cyber crime by various means is a topic of concern and now to add more into it, bluebugging is another threat.

Nowadays, all of us use Bluetooth headsets. We often have the habit of keeping the Bluetooth of a mobile on even after disconnecting it from headphones. We have smartphones that run for a long time as they have such a long-lasting battery and therefore keeping bluetooth on doesn't seem to be a factor in discharging battery soon. But our on bluetooth is now being beneficial for hackers. Bluebugging is a type of hacking where hackers connect to our phone with bluetooth within 10 meters of area, they connect through discoverable bluetooth connection. Malika Garg also said that, "after bluebugging the phone, hackers can have full control over users' phone, they can listen to calls, read and send messages, can change in calllog etc."

Thus, to prevent bluebugging, smartphone users must keep their bluetooth off when not in use. People should not accept any unknown bluetooth pairing request by mistake and do avoid using public WiFi in public places because possibility of hacking is high at this source. But even after following the instructions, if any case of hacking happens, there are high chances that the stolen data can be misused hence people can call on helpline number 1930. SP Malika Garg has given all the necessary information and instructions to people about this topic.
