Air India Flight Diverted Mid-Air Over Bomb Threat: Security Check Finds Nothing Suspicious

A bomb threat on an Air India flight forced it to be diverted mid-air from Mumbai to New York to Delhi. The decision was taken based on a security alert that came through a tweet posted on the social media platform X. Deputy Commissioner of Police at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Usha Rangnani, said strict safety protocols were maintained in accordance with the safety standards of all passengers and crew members on board.

The Boeing 777 aircraft, VT-AER, took off from Mumbai at 2:27 AM. It landed in Delhi an hour and half later. All 239 passengers and 19 crew members were deplaned safely around 4:10 AM, but they were asked to leave their bags on the aircraft. Passengers were then taken to a holding area while security inspections took place.

Air India assured the passengers that refreshments were provided, and the personnel of the airline were doing everything in their capacity not to inconvenience the passengers any further following this unscheduled disruption. The airlines would take guests to hotels after following security procedures. There were no suspicious items on the flight following its thorough screening. The spokesman for Air India reported that the flight was rescheduled for the morning of October 15.

An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Muscat received a bomb threat just before takeoff today.  The aircraft was moved to an isolated bay for security checks. IndiGo confirmed that all protocols were followed, and passengers were provided with refreshments and assistance during the delay. Additionally, a bomb threat for Mumbai-Howrah Mail was aslo received by Indian Railways, causing the train to be halted for inspection at Jalgaon station. No explosives were found in either case
