Kanpur, UP: Marking the fifth anniversary of the Balakot airstrike, Adani Defence & Aerospace, the Adani Group's dedicated arm, inaugurated two massive facilities for ammunition and missile production in Kanpur on Monday. The ceremony, graced by the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, saw the unveiling of what the Adani Group hails as South Asia's largest state-of-the-art defence equipment manufacturing facilities.
Adani Defence & Aerospace is eyeing the burgeoning defence sector and specialises in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles, counter-drone systems, and cyber defense. Spread over 500 acres in Kanpur, the ammunition complex will manufacture a wide range of ammunition, ranging from small calibre rounds to large calibre artillery shells, catering to the needs of the armed forces, paramilitary, and police. Notably, the facility has already begun production, with an initial capacity of 150 million rounds per year, fulfilling 25% of India's annual small-calibre ammunition requirement.
Inaugurating the facility, CM Yogi Adityanath said, "This facility is a testament to Uttar Pradesh's transformation and our commitment to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat.' Adani Defence's investment is the largest in the UP Defence Corridor and will be instrumental in developing a robust defence ecosystem in the state."
The need for self-reliance was underscored by General Manoj Pande, who emphasised that recent events highlight the criticality of the domestic ammunition supply. Confidence in Indian private industries for strategic supplies is being built by this investment from Adani Defence, marking a major milestone in India's journey towards defence self-reliance.
Over 4,000 jobs will be created, and the local ecosystem will benefit from MSMEs, Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, stated on Monday.
