Sooraj Pancholi, the son of actor Aditya Pancholi, was acquitted of abetment charges in the Jiah Khan suicide case by a special CBI court on Friday. Judge AS Sayyad ruled in favour of the film star due to insufficient evidence. Jiah Khan, who was 25 years old, was discovered hanging in her Mumbai residence in 2013. Sooraj Pancholi was arrested for abetting her suicide after a letter from Jiah Khan revealed the turbulence in their relationship.
According to the CBI, the note described the "intimate relationship, physical abuse, and mental and physical torture" that Jiah Khan suffered at the hands of Sooraj, ultimately leading to her suicide. Nevertheless, Sooraj Pancholi was later released on bail. Rabia Khan, Jiah's mother, has been disputing the prosecution's claim that her daughter took her own life and has alleged foul play. In her testimony before the CBI court, she asserted that Sooraj had subjected Jiah to both physical and verbal abuse. Additionally, she claimed that the police and CBI failed to collect any "legal evidence" that would establish her daughter's suicide.
