On Sunday night, while celebrating Diwali, three people—among them an eight-year-old girl—were setting off firecrackers on the street outside their apartment building when a car struck them, according to a Noida police statement on Monday.
To find the vehicle that struck the three people just after they set off a firecracker on the street, four police units have been dispatched. The three people were struck by the car with a loud thud and shocked cries.
While recording the fireworks with his mobile phone, a resident also recorded the occurrence.
According to Noida Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (add DCP) Shakti Mohan Avasthy, the incident happened in front of Sector 119's Gate Number 2 of Eldeco Aamantran Society.
The victims have been named as 72-year-old Vijay Pal Singh, 42-year-old Saurabh Singh, and an eight-year-old daughter.
Kamesh Kumar, whose daughter was injured in the accident, stated that he and his family had left after praying to set off firecrackers and head to a neighboring restaurant for dinner. Saurabh Singh, a family friend, had invited their child to watch the fireworks with them.
As we stood there taking in the fireworks, there was a huge noise. We thought at first that it was a firework, but then I saw Saurabh hurt, lying in the middle of the road. As I hurried to assist him, I noticed that the speeding car had also struck my daughter," Kumar stated.
"Vijay suffered several injuries after becoming trapped beneath the automobile and being dragged for a short distance. My kid was hurt on the back, lips, head, and neck," Kumar added.
According to Kumar, if the car had veered to the right, more people would have been injured.
After the incident, the automobile drove off and towards the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) expressway, and they were unable to stop it.
Eldeco Aamantran resident Manish Khattar stated that the vehicle had been seen in the neighborhood three or four times before. "The CCTV cameras in the society managed to capture it, but the registration number was not clear."
