8 Tamil Nadu districts shut school as rain fury continues in Kerala

Incessant rains continued to pound Kerala on Thursday, triggering landslides and floods in several parts of the state. The rains have also forced the closure of schools in eight districts. Landslides have been reported in Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta districts, while floods have submerged vast swathes of land in Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Ernakulam districts. The rains have also caused rivers to swell to dangerous levels, with some breaching their banks.

Schools shut in THESE districts of Tamil Nadu amid heavy rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rains. It has also issued an orange alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Alappuzha, and Palakkad districts.

The state government has ordered the closure of schools in Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Wayanad districts. The government has also advised people living in low-lying areas to move to higher ground.

The rains have also disrupted traffic in several parts of the state. Several roads have been closed due to landslides and flooding. The rains have also caused power outages in some areas. They are also monitoring the situation closely and has deployed relief teams to the affected areas. The government has also opened control rooms to coordinate relief efforts.

  • Thrissur district: The rains have caused landslides and flooding in Thrissur district.
  • Ernakulam district: The rains have caused rivers to breach their banks in Ernakulam district.

The state government is providing relief to the affected people. It has also set up camps for the people who have been evacuated from their homes.

The rains are expected to continue in the next few days. People are advised to stay indoors and avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary. It is important to stay safe and follow the advice of the authorities.
