By hosting a digital foundation stone laying ceremony on Sunday, August 6, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is setting the groundwork for an important upgrade in the nation's transportation industry. This historic occasion sets an initiative to renovate 508 train stations across the country. The project is an important part of the "Amrit Bharat Station Scheme" and is anticipated to cost about Rs. 24,470 crore when completed in 2025.
“This will be a historic move as this is the first time in the world that a program of laying the foundation stone of such a huge number of stations is being conducted,” a railway official said.
This extensive renovation aims to improve passenger comfort, improve traffic flow, and set up efficient signaling for passenger direction. The renovated station buildings will be made to reflect the culture, history, and architecture of the area, giving them a distinctive touch.
According to Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the prime minister is keeping track of the project's development. “Development of these stations is a major focus of our government. Our PM is personally monitoring the progress of these railway stations. He has given inputs in designs of these stations and will be laying the foundation of these 508 stations.”
These 508 stations are scattered among 27 states and Union Territories. Of these, 55 are located in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, and 13 in Karnataka.
