The Military saved 500 abandoned sightseers, including 54 kids, in Sikkim as heavy downpours in pieces of the Himalayan state caused avalanches and road obstructions, an official said on Saturday. On Friday, there was a lot of rain in Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang. As a result, about 500 tourists who were going to Lachung and the Lachen Valley were stuck at Chungthang because of landslides and roadblocks. Troops of the Indian Armed Force's Trishakti Corps started the salvage activity upon demand from SDM Chungthang and moved the abandoned travelers to a protected area.
Three distinct army camps were used to move the stranded tourists, which included 216 men, 113 women, and 54 children. They were given comfortable clothing and hot feasts, as per the guard representative. He stated that the tourists were accommodated and made to feel at home for the night when the troops left their barracks. The official added that there were three medical teams set up to assess each traveler's health.
