5 cops in Gujarat arrested for stealing seized liquor, table fans from police station

In Gujarat's Mahisagar district, five policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, were apprehended for purportedly stealing liquor bottles and table fans valued at ₹1.97 lakh from the Bakor police station.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, PS Valvi, revealed that 482 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor and 75 table fans, seized from a person attempting to smuggle them into Gujarat, were stored in the women's lock-up due to space constraints in the designated storage area.

During a routine inspection preparation, discrepancies in the inventory of seized items surfaced, leading to the discovery of missing goods—125 IMFL bottles worth ₹1.57 lakh and 15 fans valued at ₹40,500.

Subsequent investigations and CCTV footage implicated ASI Arvind Khant, allegedly orchestrating the theft with head constable Lalit Parmar on the night of October 25. The footage captured them entering and exiting the lock-up carrying liquor bottles.

The FIR indicated Khant's involvement in disabling the CCTV cameras temporarily. Khant, Parmar, and three other officers faced arrest under IPC section 380 for theft, among other relevant charges

Another individual allegedly involved in the incident remained at large, as per Deputy Superintendent PS Valvi.
