Tragic news emerged from Northeast Delhi as three boys lost their lives while attempting to swim in floodwaters, according to the police. The victims, aged 10 and two 13-year-olds, entered the floodwaters in a ditch located at a metro construction site in the Mukundpur area of Northeast Delhi. Unfortunately, they drowned during their bath. Authorities swiftly retrieved them and rushed them to BJRM Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. According to the police, the boys involved in the incident have been identified as Piyush (13), Nikhil (10), and Ashish (13). They were residents of H-block in Jahangirpuri. At present, investigations are ongoing to determine the details surrounding the incident.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall, Delhi is experiencing severe flooding with multiple areas being submerged, mainly due to the Yamuna River surpassing the danger level. This is the highest recorded rainfall in the past 45 years.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena visited the ITO area, which is the busiest traffic intersection in Delhi. The ITO area had to be closed off as floodwaters entered central Delhi due to a breakdown in a drain regulator. Currently, five out of the 32 gates of the ITO barrage, which control the flow of water into the Yamuna, are closed. As a result, the drainage process from the flooded areas has slowed down. Despite the efforts of the Army, disaster response forces, and the Delhi administration, they have been unable to clear the blockage at the closed gates so far.
