Goa is known of its lustrous green surrounding, constant gushing of waves and party nights which triggers an adrenalin rush. But apart from this, Goa houses few of the world's oldest and most recognized Churches, which dates back to centuries.Some of which are as follows:
Old Goa's Bom Jesus Basilica :
The mortal bones of St. Francis Xavier are kept in this 16th-century church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first minor basilica in India, this Jesuit church is regarded as one of the finest specimens of baroque and Portuguese Colonial architecture in the country.
Se Cathedral, Old Goa:
One of Asia's biggest cathedrals, the Se Cathedral in Old Goa is close to the Basilica of Bom Jesus.Venerable Pope Pius XII gave "The Golden Rose" to the church in 1953. The Popes of the Catholic Church have historically been bestowed with the Golden Rose, a gold adornment.
Church of St. Cajetan, Velha:
The Corinthian architecture of the Church of St. Cajetan, Velha, which was modelled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, is on display. The church is considered to have been modeled on St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
Church of St. Andrew in Velha
One of the oldest churches in Goa is the Church of St. Andrew in Velha, which is renowned for its white exterior and exquisite interiors.The outdoor pulpit on the front of this church is unique to Goa.
Church of St. Alex, Calangute:
This church stands out from others in the area due to its remarkable architectural design. It has three major altars that are dedicated to Our Lady of the Mount, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary, and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
Holy Spirit Church, Margao:
Margao's Holy Spirit Church is an architectural wonder with its dazzling white exterior and elaborate interior decor.St. Anthony and the Blessed Joseph Vaz sculptures are housed in glass cases in the north aisle.2900 Catholic families reside in the church.
Rachol Seminary and Church, Rachol:
There are many old volumes and manuscripts in the seminary library.The Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol is another name for the Rachol Seminary.It is also known as the Saints' College.
Our Lady of Grace Church, Margao:
Margao's Our Lady of Grace Church is a stunning display of exquisitely detailed Indian Baroque architecture.The "Capela de Batalhao" was formerly the name of this military chapel, which is located in the centre of Margao. More than 8000 people attend the church.
St. Anne's Church, Talaulim:
Talaulim's St. Anne's Church is renowned for its distinctive fusion of Indian and Portuguese design.The World Monument Foundation has taken the Church under its care. 2007 saw the completion of urgent repairs and the strengthening of the foundations with help from the Goa government.
Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Panaji:
Large bell near the entrance to the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji, a well-known landmark.Only the Golden Bell, which is housed in the Sé Cathedral in Old Goa, is bigger than this bell, which is regarded as the second-largest of its kind in Goa.
