The CDC has reportedly added the "Arcturus" subvariant XBB.1.16 to its variant tracker, according to the Xinhua news agency.

According to specialists, the percentage is predicted to rise over the following few weeks and might eventually replace other coronavirus strains as the most prevalent in the nation.

According to CDC data, the extremely contagious Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5, which continues to be the predominant strain in the US, was responsible for around 73.6% of this week's new Covid-19 cases.

The recent increase in Covid-19 cases in India is being attributed, in part, to XBB.1.16, which is being watched by the World Health Organisation.
