How Weird Is That? This Woman Had a Nose Grown on Her Arm!

In a ground-breaking procedure, surgeons in France grew a woman's new nose on her arm and successfully grafted it to her face.

After receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy in 2013 for nasal cavity cancer, the woman in Toulouse lost a significant portion of her nose.

She tried prosthetics and underwent a skin transplant in an effort to fix her nose, but she spent years surviving without most of it.

Arm with the custom nose

The ground-breaking procedure was carried out at the Toulouse-Oncopole University Cancer Institute by surgeons from the Claudius Regaud Institute and Toulouse University Hospital.

Her forearm was used to implant a custom nose that was created using 3D-printed biomaterial to replace cartilage. The new nose was subsequently covered by a skin transplant from her temple by the medical professionals. After being allowed to grow for two months, the appendage was then moved to her face.

The hospital stated that this new method even makes it possible to get over some restrictions imposed by other techniques.
