Known for his impact on 808 beats and heartbeats alike, Kanye West continues to try and expand on his legacy in different ways. Many believe that the comments he has made of late have torn apart said legacy, but apparently West wishes to build something - a small “universe” of his own.
According to sources close to Rolling SStone, West has filed a batch of trademark applications under the names “Yecosystem” and “Yeezyverse”, which continues his trend of inserting wordplay based on his official name “ye” into the names of his products. (see: his fashion collaboration “Yeezys” and his album “Yeezus”).
The “Yecosystem”, or the “Yeezyverse”, which has reportedly been in the works for years, is supposed to fulfil the producer’s vision of a “self-sustained enterprise”, which would include branded homes, stores, and food items. The “enterprise” would ultimately rely on its own branded businesses to pay its own expenses. Although there isn’t a concrete plan that details how and where this would be built, the first community formed around it is in development, as well as a campus which may open next month.
This news follows the closing down of West’s own Christian private school, Donda Academy, which honed students from kindergarten to the 12th grade. It also follows his recent loss of USD 1 billion in brand deals, as many of the companies affiliated with him (including streaming giant Apple Music) have severed ties with him following his controversial endorsement of the phrase “White Lives Matter” and anti-Semitic statements.
"He's trying to do shit that people couldn't even conceive of and he's trying to make it happen," said the aforementioned sources close to Rolling Stone. "He comes from a good place. It's definitely his goal that everything that people touch that's his is a good thing and has a good impact on the world", they claim.
It is to be noted that the “Yecosystem” will allow West to yield complete creative and legal control over related business dealings.
