Disney is bringing back beloved siblings Alex (Selena Gomez) and Justin Russo (David Henrie) for a whole new chapter in their magical lives with the sequel of -Wizards of Waverly Place.
The actress-singer confirmed on Thursday that the return for a sequel to the popular Wizards of Waverly Place, sharing a throwback photo from the Disney sitcom's set. Gomez will reprise her role as Alex Russo in the fantasy teen comedy series, while Henrie will play her on-screen brother Justin Russo.
Selena captioned her Instagram story, "We're back," and announced her role in the sequel's pilot episode, written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, in another of her stories. David also announced the news to his fans. "The Russos are thrilled to rejoin your family, but we've grown..."2024, the year magic returns," the 34-year-old actor captioned a picture of the script.
According to the official description, the show "picks up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife (Gianopulos) and two sons." A powerful young wizard (Brown) in need of training unexpectedly arrives at his door. And Justin must embrace his past to secure the Wizard World's future."
Previous Seasons
Todd J. Greenwald created Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired on Disney Channel for four seasons from October 2007 to January 2012. The show follows the lives of three wizard siblings, Alex, Justin, and Max Russo (played by Jake T. Austin), who live in an apartment on Waverly Place in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.
The first and second seasons focus on the siblings overcoming obstacles in their daily lives, while the third and fourth seasons delve into a family competition. In the final season, Alex wins the competition, and Justin becomes the headmaster of WizTech, a boarding school for aspiring young wizards. Max took over as manager of the family's sandwich shop, where he successfully attracted investment from the wizard community.
