Shakira's hometown honours her with a giant bronze statue of the iconic dance move

Shakira, the famous singer, now stands tall as a 21.3ft (6.5 meters) bronze statue in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia. It is believed that she first showcased her iconic hip-shaking dance moves at the age of four on a table in a Lebanese restaurant, and this statue commemorates that legendary moment.

The renowned singer, known for her hit "Hips Don't Lie," took to her Instagram account to share captivating photos and a video of a statue depicting her iconic hip swivel. In one of her posts, she added a caption to accompany the visuals.

In a separate post, she uploaded images of her parents, William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado, positioned before the magnificent figure.

"My heart is overwhelmed by this sight," she expressed.

The statue, although sizable, may not hold the title of being the largest pop icon statue ever constructed. That distinction appears to belong to Forever Marilyn, a towering 26-ft monument dedicated to the iconic Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe. This remarkable tribute now graces the premises of a tourism agency in Palm Springs, California, where Monroe, known as Norma Jean Baker at the time, was supposedly first "discovered" by an agent.

Shakira expressed her gratitude to Yino Márquez, the sculptor, and his students for showcasing their immense artistic skills in crafting the magnificent bronze statue, following its unveiling.

Earlier this year, the singer gained attention for her song about her ex-partner, former footballer Gerard Piqué. She then dropped a diss track after rumours of his infidelity. The song, El Jefe, set new YouTube records in Latin America.
