In protest of "Pathaan," Veer Shivaji Group activists marched to the streets of Indore and set Shah Rukh Khan's effigy on fire. The demonstrators demanded a ban on the movie, scheduled to be released in January of the following year, alleging that the lyrics of the song "Besharam Rang" had offended people of the Hindu community.
On Wednesday in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, activists protested against the upcoming Bollywood film Pathaan and that movie's song Besharam Rang. After state minister Narottam Mishra demanded that the film be banned as it has "objectionable scenes" and the use of saffron costumes, there was also a protest.
Protesters also set SRK's effigy on fire while they shouted accusations that the song's lyrics had also damaged the Hindu community's feelings. The actors' posters were repeatedly slapped and damaged by them while they stood at a traffic light.
Pathaan, one of the most anticipated films, is set to be released in 2023, and the film's first single, "Besharam Rang," was recently released.
And it quickly became a source of contention after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra criticised the clothing colours of lead actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and called for their "rectification."
According to Mishra, the government would think about what to do about the movie's screening in the state if certain sequences in the song are not "rectified."
Will Madhya Pradesh ban Pathaan?
Narottam Mishra, the home minister for Madhya Pradesh, had earlier in the day expressed displeasure with Padukone's costume in the "Pathaan" song as well as the colour of Padukone and lead actor Shah Rukh Khan's clothing and called for its "rectification." He forewarned that a film ban might be worthwhile to consider if the problematic portions were not removed.
Prior to this, members of Chandrashekhar Tiwari's organization, Sanskriti Bachao Manch, protested against the main actors and the song "Besharam Rang."
According to Chandrashekhar Tiwari, "This is an affront to our saffron attire, and Sanskruti Bachao Manch would not stand for it."
He also added, "When Hindus began boycotting your film, Shahrukh Khan recalled Vaishno Devi. You're travelling to Vaishno Devi before your film's release. Because the people of India made you a superstar, you must apologise to all Hindus and withdraw the song from this film. Why are you always tarnishing your reputation, Shahrukh Khan?"
"You must apologise to all Sanatan Dharma followers," he further added.
Mishra has recently brought up film actors and producers for their films for the third time. In October of this year, he threatened to sue the creators of the Bollywood film "Adipurush," based on the epic Ramayana, unless they removed specific sequences depicting Hindu holy icons in an apparently "wrong manner."
Previously, in July of this year, he threatened Leena Manimekalai with a First Information Report (FIR) over a controversial poster of her documentary, "Kaali,' which depicted the god smoking.
Pathaan, which also features John Abraham and is directed by Siddharth Anand and made by Yash Raj Films, debuts on January 25 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. SRK has Dunki and Jawan in his back catalogue in addition to this movie, while Deepika will appear in Project K and Fighter. Recently, she made an appearance in one of Ranveer Singh's Cirkus songs.
